Cadmium Plating Services

Lone Star Fasteners no longer provides in-house cadmium plating service.

Our zinc electro-plating process per ASTM B-633 SC 2 Type 3 Conversion, uses a clear Trivalent Chromate conversion coating in lieu of the Hexavalent Chromate which is a known carcinogen and is now restricted by the new European RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), and ELV (End of life Vehicle) directives. These directives, adopted by the European Union’s 25 member countries, limit the per-cent content, by weight, of 6 hazardous substances, including cadmium and hexavalent chromates, into the European Union Countries in Electronic and Electrical products. These Directives were adopted by the state of California in January, 2006.

Cadmium plating can be provided through the use of outside plating processors.
